Sing for Simon

I received an interesting email from Jeff Liu seeking singers for Simon Cowell’s new TV show:

Dear Shunya Theatre,

I’m working with the promoters of Simon Cowell’s new show, X-Factor coming out on Fox Television in the Fall, and we are looking for community orgs to help us increase the show’s DIVERSITY.

Auditions will be held in Chicago on April 27 and we need your help. We want to reach out to all ASIANS, SOUTH ASIANS and PACIFIC ISLANDERS in the US who are singers – both as soloists and as groups. We are looking to increase the representation of Asian Americans, South Asians and Pacific Islanders on the show, and build a Facebook community to support our homegrown talent. You can help us by:

1. Someone you know has talent! Please get the word out to your friends, parents, cousins, church choirs, karaoke groups and encourage them to audition. Please forward this email or post on your Facebook page. If they want to audition, sign up information is at this website: http://thexfactor.blogs.fox.com/

2. Please “Like” the Facebook page API’S CAN SING and encourage your friends/constituents to share the information about this. Add videos of your favorite Asian American, South Asian and Pacific Islander artists. The link: http://www.facebook.com/APIsCanSing

3. Please post the attached flyer at your Center’s bulletin board or share with your local community members

Auditions are taking place in 6 cities:

1. LOS ANGELES – COMPLETED
2. MIAMI – COMPLETED
3. NEW YORK – COMPLETED
4. SEATTLE – APRIL 20
5. CHICAGO – APRIL 27
6. DALLAS – MAY26

I’ve attached more information. Let me know if you can help! Let’s REPRESENT!

Thank you,

Jeff Liu

Reading, Reading, Reading

We have two events coming up in the near future:

First, tomorrow, April 16 at 4pm we have an informal play reading at Midtown Art Center. We generally try to meet monthly to read new plays and have a discussion. If you are interested in learning more about Shunya or possibly volunteering with us, this is a great place to meet us.

Second, NEXT Saturday, April 23, 2011 we have a more formal staged reading with associated lecture. You can read about it on our homepage and buy tickets there. Hope to see you there!
